Ceramics 2012
Below is a slideshow of my most recent ceramics work, which consists of two separate porcelain wall sculptures displayed at a local coffee shop on a painted brick wall.
I signed up for a ceramics class for Fall 2012, because at the time I had been out of the studio for two years and I felt an urge to continue the work I began as an undergraduate art education student. As an art student I felt somewhat lost; I never felt like I had a particular niche- a stranger could look at all of my artwork and not know they were all completed by the same person. However, during my last semester of taking studio art classes I was on to something. I became intrigued with developing installation sculptures by displaying the repetition of one shape into unique formations. My inspiration for these installations always derived from nature- organic lines and shapes. [An example can be seen below this slideshow; the last sculpture of the photo gallery. Another example can be seen in the Sculpture and Commissions tab; iHotel Commission.] In addition to my new fixation of repeating one shape, I was and still am very fascinated by the material itself. I truly enjoy manipulating or playing with clay and letting whatever shape arises speak for itself. My goal is to keep taking classes and work with clay in order to fully explore those two concepts and happily settle into my niche.
